Technologies

Technology is a specialist subject for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 students at Linden Park Primary School. Our program allocates a minimum of 1 lesson per week with a specialist teacher, to set children up for success in the Primary Years of schooling, where device use is incrementally increased.

The Australian Curriculum: Technologies comprises 2 subjects:

  • Design and Technologies, in which students use design thinking and technologies to generate and produce designed solutions for authentic needs and opportunities
  • Digital Technologies, in which students use computational thinking and information systems to define, design and implement digital solutions for authentic problems.

The Media Arts curriculum is also covered, as well as aspects of the Child Protection Curriculum.

Our Digital Technology program is underpinned by the core value of safety. Concepts such as talking online to strangers, recognising and protecting personal information, spotting online scams, being mindful of our online presence, building trusted networks, seeking help and other digital safety concepts are presented at a relevant, age appropriate level.

These fundamental understandings about the online environment encourage children to be able to engage with the digital world in a safe and informed manner, whilst instilling confidence in their abilities to navigate their digital device.

Other areas of learning which are aligned to the Australian Curriculum include learning about how digital systems work, data representation and algorithmic thinking and how familiar products, services and environments are designed and produced by people to meet personal or local community needs and sustainability.
